Asthma attacks are behind the hospitalization of more than 100,000 Britons a year. Asthma attacks cause the deaths of some 1,900 people annually - the equivalent of one person every four hours.
One child in every ten suffers from asthma.
POWERbreathe has been shown to reduce breathlessness and bring newfound freedom to people who, because of illness or advancing age, are restricted by shortness of breath.
POWERbreathe is great for asthmatics, or anyone who suffers from respiratory problems.
BREATH IS THE SPIRIT OF LIFE...
Oxygen is not only your lifeline, but proves essential to the healthy functioning of every cell and tissue in your body.
If cells are unable to absorb essential quantities of oxygen, electrical conduction, growth, repair, maintenance, and other simple life processes are unable to take place.
Your ability to extract and use oxygen declines at a steady rate of about 1% per year.
Unfortunately, your metabolic rate decreases hand in hand, so that...
The act of breathing is central to everything we do. It is often the vital component of many exercise systems which none of us train to full potential.
The Powerbreathe, combined with your rebound aerobics workouts and a variety of 'Totally Breathtaking' Starbound techniques, will help you regain vitality, energy and an enthusiasm for life that you might have left behind years ago.
Among the numerous other benefits that Powerbreathe® calls in to play, it helps you to re-focus on the importance of your breathing patterns.
As a result, carrying out any exercise or fitness activity will feel easier, enabling you to get more out of it.
ATHLETIC PROWESS
POWERbreathe® = Dumbbells for your Diaphragm
Improve Breathing in 3 weeks....
Training is accomplished with as little as 5 minutes training per day, and benefits are perceived by patients within 3 weeks of starting the training McConnell et al., 1998
The effect of this is to limit the performance of those limb muscles - making exercise feel harder and impairing performance.

How will you use Powerbreathe?
POWERbreathe is a small, hand-held inspiratory muscle trainer, which is easy-to-use and drug free. Not only does it reduce breathlessness, but it radically improves fitness and sports performance.
1. Powerbreathe has a comfortable mouthpiece.
2. You simply breathe in through it, using a little extra effort of course, and the device does the rest.
3. You have a choice of notches, to enable you to set a comfortable resistance level.
4. Within a few days people report their inspiratory muscles feel stronger.
5. Within four weeks your lung function, and ultimately performance, will improve.
6. You reset the level as your breathing capacity improves, gradually increase resistance as you rapidly increase your capacity!
7. The recommended number of breaths in each Powerbreathe session can be up to a threshold of 30 breaths - at a level that best feels comfortable for you.
In the course of a normal day (24hrs) we take over 20,000 breaths. If you're physically active and walk to work, take the stairs, and go to the gym, this figure could be as high as 30,000.
But even top athletes can fail to breathe optimally and recent research has shown that specific training of the breathing muscles can improve the performance of highly trained athletes.
In addition to their role in sucking the air in and out of our lungs, the breathing muscles (principally the diaphragm, the muscles of the rib cage and the abdominal muscles) play a vital role in stabilizing and rotating the upper body
In sports such
as rowing, boxing and racquet sports, this secondary function of the breathing
muscles has obvious implications for an athlete who is also trying to breathe as
hard a possible at the same time.
This exercise domain is associated with short, intense bursts of activity and places the breathing muscles under sufficient strain that they show fatigue.
Above the lactate threshold, breathing is driven to high levels because lactic acid stimulates it to increase as part of a compensatory strategy to overt fatigue of other muscles.
TOTALLY BREATH-TAKING Alive Alive 02
When bouncing on a mini trampoline your heart and lungs are automatically strengthened, circulating a healthier supply of oxygen to your cells.
As your heart becomes stronger, you extract more oxygen for the same amount of blood.
Exercising on a mini trampoline can increase the amount of air travelling through your lungs up to twenty-fold.
This compares with the heart, which increases its output by less than six-fold.
So the relative demands placed on the respiratory pump are huge.
By training the performance of your breathing you optimize the performance of your body to respond in peak form.
As you develop your rebound aerobics programmes, your breathing capacity is expanded. You automatically breathe more deeply and fully.
Fluid circulation improves when performing rebound exercises, carrying more wastes from your tissue spaces, encouraging more efficient absorption of oxygen at a cellular level.
Your lymphatics are activated by the additional respiratory pressure. In turn, numerous benefits accrue. For example, the activity of your red bone marrow, which produces red blood cells for carrying oxygen, nutrients and wastes, is stimulated. Approximately five million blood cells are released into your bloodstream every minute. Bouncing on a mini trampoline enhances their function.
Respiratory Disorders Training of the inspiratory muscles has been demonstrated to increase their strength, resistance to fatigue and, most importantly, to reduce exertional dyspnoea. (Lisboa, 1994; Copestake & McConnell, 1995; Lisboa, 1997; McConnell et al., 1998)
"When a new way to fine-tune the body comes along - especially if it's legal - competitors will jump on it…cyclists are queuing up to get their lips round it." John Byant, Sports Editor, The Times
"The combined effects of cardiac disease and years of enforced/voluntary inactivity result in a number of our patients being unable to exercise without experiencing extreme breathlessness.
I believe that Powerbreathe's ability to reduce breathlessness in similar populations makes it a potentially exciting and valuable tool for cardiac rehabilitation."
Tuss Tipson, Director, Action Heart Cardiac Rehabilitation Project

In randomized, controlled trials, on mild / moderate asthmatics, POWERbreathe increased inspiratory muscle strength by a mean of 11% in just 3 weeks McConnell et al., 1998
Inspiratory muscle training has been shown to relieve the symptoms of asthma by improving lung function, resulting in reduction of medication and a fall in hospitalizations Weiner et al., 1992
Maintenance of lung function during Corticosteroid use...
Corticosteroids are used to treat a large number of disease conditions, but significant reductions in inspiratory muscle strength have been documented after an acute bout of oral corticosteroid treatment.
Research has shown that a concomitant period of inspiratory muscle training can eliminate the fall in inspiratory muscle strength, therefore maintaining lung function during corticosteroid use .Weiner et al., 1995
"This device will significantly improve the strength of inspiratory muscles…. the device should be seen as a supplement to normal training". Mike Trees Elite Triathlete
New research has now shown that specific inspiratory muscle training (IMT) improves the efficiency of the inspiratory muscles (Sharpe & McConnell, 1998), with the consequence that performance in laboratory-controlled trials is improved by almost 30% Caine & McConnell, 1998
As you inhale against the load, the inspiratory muscles are made to work harder; this training stimulus induces improvements in the force-generating capacity and metabolic efficiency of the inspiratory muscles. Sharpe et al., unpublished observations
Research has shown that the inspiratory muscles have such a huge task to perform that they can 'steal' blood from our exercising limbs to supplement their work Harms et al., 1998 Who developed Powerbreathe?
POWERbreathe is the result of nearly a decade of research. It was designed by professional exercise scientists at Birmingham University and Loughborough University, in the United Kingdom.
Dr Alison McConnell is a Reader in Sport & Exercise Physiology at Brunel University, where she is Head of the Centre for Sports Innovation.
More than a decade ago, Alison recognized that breathing was a potentially limiting factor to athletic performance and is now a leading authority on breathing and exercise, working with some of the UK's top athletes on breathing-related issues.
Her team of human performance scientists at Birmingham University researched and developed the POWERbreathe product.
Dr Alison McConnell's expert opinion states that breathing is an often practised, but seldom-mastered art.
Powerbreathe was developed by professional exercise scientists - for anyone who wants to be less breathless, make exercise easier, improve athletic performance, and enjoy a better quality of life!
Just using the POWERbreathe proven training regime, 30 breaths twice daily, will increase your respiratory strength and endurance rapidly.
POWERbreathe has a controllable load for progressive exercise and is appropriate for people at all levels of fitness, and all ages.
Not only is a full spontaneous flow of breath an essential ingredient for fitness prowess - it is the best natural tranquillizer you will find.
By consciously exercising your breathing patterns you calm and nourish your nerves, revitalize your energy reserves, restore your sleeping patterns into natural balance, and wave goodbye to tension and stress.
